The connect button is what tells your Xbox One that you are trying to connect a controller. The specific location and appearance will depend on the type of Xbox One that you have.

Xbox One: The connect button is located around the corner from the slot where you insert games.

Xbox One S: The connect button is located on the front of the console, on the right side, below the power button.

Xbox One X: The connect button is located on the front of the console, on the right side, right next to the USB port.

How to Sync an Xbox One Controller to a PC

The Xbox One controller is also a great way to play games on a PC. If you want to connect an Xbox One controller to your computer, the process will depend on how old the controller is.

Older Xbox One controllers require a special USB dongle. You can buy the dongle separately, and it also comes packaged with some Xbox One controllers.

To connect one of these controllers:

  1. Insert the USB dongle into a USB port on your computer.
  2. Turn on your Xbox One controller by pressing the Xbox button.
  3. Press and release the connect button on the dongle.
  4. Press and hold the connect button on your controller, and release it when the Xbox button stops flashing.

Newer Xbox One controllers can connect to a PC using the dongle or Bluetooth. To connect an Xbox One controller to your PC using Bluetooth:

  1. Make sure you are running Windows 10 Anniversary Update on your PC. If you aren't, then you can't connect your controller via Bluetooth.

  2. Turn on your Xbox One controller by pushing the Xbox button.
  3. Press the connect button on your controller for three seconds and then release it.
  4. On your computer, click Start > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  5. Make sure that your computer has Bluetooth enabled.
  6. Click Xbox Wireless Controller > Pair.

Xbox One Controller Trigger / Z Axis Driver Issue

I recently purchased an Xbox One controller to replace my broken 360 pad for PC gaming, and I'm having issues with the trigger setup. When I look at my functioning 360 pad in controller settings, the bar on 'Z Axis' is at 50% with no triggers pushed in, and goes up or down if i click the right or left analog trigger in. However, my Xbox One controller is behaving as if one of the triggers is constantly pushed in -- when I look at it in controller settings, the Z axis is at 0% and goes from 0-100 using only the left trigger, while my right trigger does the same for the 'Z Rotation'

This is leading to every game being fairly unplayable -- having the trigger constantly pressed in is a bit of a hassle. I have no idea how to disable the Z rotation and have both of the triggers control the Z axis like with a 360 pad, is there any way with Windows 10? I've tried wired as well as bluetooth and it functions the same way -- I've uninstalled and reinstalled my drivers several times, and the xbox accessories app says I have the most up to date firmware.

I should also mention that it seems like the controller is fine from a hardware standpoint, and it is just assigning the triggers to weird axes. If I use x360ce and emulate the controller as a 360 pad it works completely fine -- triggers function totally normally. Sadly this isn't a complete fix as a lot of games just don't work very well with x360ce.

Xbox One Controller Drivers For Windows 7

Edit: I just tested the controller on my spare Windows 7 PC, as well as my roommate's Windows 10 PC. Plugged it in and the controller immediately works perfectly -- the controller configuration doesn't even show 'Z Rotation' (which is good), and both triggers control the Z Axis. I have no idea what my PC is doing differently at this point -- I'm up to speed on Windows updates, and the xbox accessories tool says I have the latest firmware.
